Giving Tuesday Campaign for PFLAG Spartanburg

If you follow me at all you’ve likely come to know that I became the Communications Director for our local PFLAG chapter. PFLAG provides support and education for allies and members of the LGBTQ community. I saw them setting really big goals with no real brand direction or organization. I identified a few things they could do to improve brand visibility and interaction. After rebooting their website, I stepped up and volunteered to work with them on their brand visibility and help get them moving forward.

I launched myself into this world that I had been an ally of for a long time. I immediately started looking for ways to help them be better and do better. Giving Tuesday was a great opportunity for me to do that. It’s a day of giving right around the time that we’re all super preoccupied with shopping and planning for the holidays. It serves as a reminder that there are people and organizations out there doing real good and that they also need help, especially around the end of the year.

Why I chose PFLAG.

I am supporting PFLAG Spartanburg this year (all year, every year) because of the good they’ve done and they good they aspire to do. As a member of the Upstate LGBTQ+ community, my beliefs are strongly aligned with this organization and others like it. I feel very strongly about equality for all humans and know that there are members of our community who think it’s okay to decide who deserves support. Here in Spartanburg we’re at a tipping point. I want to make sure we tip in the direction of love for all of our neighbors. I understand how hard it is to share a part of yourself that society sees as repugnant and diseased. Combine with that anxiety and depression and you’ve got pretty much the poster child for groups like this.

With your help, we will build strong partnerships that will help us reach out to those who are banished from their homes or isolated from their community because of their gender or sexual identity. It would mean a lot to me if my friends and family would also support this group on November 27th.
